What is Reproductive Reflexology?

This is a specialised area which works to balance the endocrine system, the part that is involved in reproduction and the menstrual cycle. Reflexology works by creating a state of “homeostasis” ~ a state of balance in the body. This is the point at which the body can instigate self-healing. The roots of reflexology go back thousands of years and was used in some form in the ancient civilisations of Egypt and China. Areas of the feet ~ the reflexes, are believed to correspond with areas of the body. By massaging these points, we can affect change in the corresponding areas of the body.

This is a gentle and effective treatment for stress and relaxation and seems to offer a level of emotional support which clients love. Stress and cortisol levels can play a major part in hormonal imbalance, since the building blocks for progesterone are the same ones used to “build” cortisol ~ the body will always seek to protect before it deals with reproduction & menstruation.

A menstrual bleed should not be painful, although we have conditioning that tells us it should. It should start with a slower flow, which then becomes “full” flow. Brown spotting at the beginning or end can indicate a misaligned uterus (womb). Red spotting at the beginning can indicate lower progesterone levels.

How we can help you…

In reproductive reflexology, we work to balance the hormonal system. If you are experiencing any menstrual cycle issues, this can be an indication that the hormones are not well balanced. This may include painful bleeds, irregular cycles, no bleeds, or “scanty” bleeds or spotting. Conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome, polycystic ovaries, premature ovarian failure, endometriosis, fibroids and polyps are examples of unbalanced hormones which can be addressed by this therapy. I work too with women who have experienced loss through miscarriage, still birth and termination.

It is not uncommon to have become disconnected from our wombs ~ especially when we have spent many years on the contraceptive pill or we have experienced pain associated with our bleeds ~ reflexology is a great way to begin that re-connection.

We work to mimic the natural menstrual cycle and what the hormones are doing, for example during your bleed hormonal activity is at its lowest, so we balance the endocrine system to boost or balance hormones depending on the condition being treated. Experience shows that generally you will experience be better flow, less clotting, less pain and an easing of congestion. As an extension of this work I include menstrual cycle awareness, since this is the basis for a good heart~womb connection & a balanced flow.
