3 WAYS WE CAN BEGIN TO FOSTER A DEEPER AND MORE RESILIENT CONNECTION TO OUR WOMB + YONI

The word yoni is often misunderstood and misinterpreted in the west. It’s meaning is way beyond a vagina, so let’s begin by taking a deeper dive in to its fullest meaning

The word yoni means “holder,” “vagina,” “source,” or “womb.” According to Tantra Yoga, the yoni is the origin of life, the source of the Universe. In Hinduism, the yoni is a symbol of Shakti (the creative force that moves the Universe): hridaya-yoga.com

The yoni then is the sacred source of life. I love to use it in reference to our female anatomy, precisely because it is so reverential in its meaning and it encompasses the whole of our female reproductive anatomy.

This female landscape is receptive in nature, it absorbs energy – the energy of people, events, experiences, both positive and negative, it doesn’t distinguish between the two. Beautiful pregnancies and births will be registered and stored just as much as emotional abuse, traumas and non-serving relationships. What I have found is that oftentimes, we have failed to understand that just as we can absorb, so can we release.

As well as holding too much in our pelvis, we can become numb, disconnected, disembodied, not present – the biggest culprits are listed below:

✦ Shame
✦ Guilt
✦ Trauma – all dimensions from emotional to medical
✦ Being dismissed: Not having your experiences validated
✦ Gaslighting & having our experiences invalidated
✦ Pain – menstruation | medical intervention | conditions
✦ Menarche – when it’s anything but celebrated as the right of passage that it is
✦ Family dynamics – the feminine being belittled | ignored | of no value
✦ Childhood experience – especially for the sensitive soul

HOW DOES THIS IMPACT US?

Physical disorders – endometriosis, PCOS, PCO, fibroids, fertility issues et al
Emotional + mental – a dysregulated nervous system
Lack of motivation
Lack of creative flow
Poor energy levels
Boundaries – both with the self and others – when we allow both ourselves and others to override them, often to our own detriment
A discomfort with our feminine energy
Pushing too hard – burnout
Trying to live our lives misaligned to our own unique frequency + flow
A dissonance with our soul path, purpose, essence – because we no longer really know what that is
Lack of trust – that we no longer feel we can trust our bodies, they have let use down some how, failed us and/or caused us pain
Spiritual disconnection – we feel alone, unheard, unsupported, that we have to do every with no higher dimensional support

The list is not exhaustive – I’m sure you have some of your own to add alongside?

HOW CAN WE CHANGE THIS? HOW CAN WE CHANGE THE NARRATIVE?

  1. Menstrual cycle awareness is THE bedrock, the foundation to us reclaiming our feminine energy and essence. Why? Because it’s the vital missing link to live in harmonic flow with our changing energy, mood, vitally. When we begin to listen to our bodies, take “her” cue – to rest when we need, to clear out the diary when we feel the call inwards, when we understand that menstruation itself is truly a blessing, when we can utilise the energy surge in “inner spring” without burnout, when we listen to our inner wise woman, then, we can begin to feel more present for ourselves and our needs. Overwriting ALL the previous scripts that we have downloaded from parental care & a society which deems to keep us powerless.
  2. Beginning a practice which reweaves our connection with our wombspace – even the simplest act of creating connection between the heart and the womb, through breath, through touch, can begin to re-awaken this most feminine expression. Something that I love to do is connect through touch – hands over my wombspace and breath deeply into her. Then one hand over the womb & one over heart, breathing between these two places and imaging a beautiful flow between (you may “see” this, sense it, but really it’s about our intention). To get you started, here is a link to a heart/womb connection visualisation
  3. Make a choice to become your own advocate and ally – it’s unlikely that anything will truly change unless you begin to commit to yourself, your inner journey and begin to prioritise yourself. Begin with baby steps, find those who can support you, surround yourself with those who have your best interests at heart, let go of those who gain something by you not stepping into your own power and sovereignty. Find your “tribe”. Join a women’s circle, take online courses and workshops to support this new growth. Journal/reflect/creative expression through art, music, sound are all gorgeous ways that we can begin to foster a different relationship with ourselves. Be in nature a little bit more, notice the seasonal changes and adjust your work in alignment. Be with the elements, the raw power of nature and earth herself.

Let us begin this inner journey to re-connection. Truly, we do this not just for ourselves, but for our daughters, nieces, granddaughters and beyond. It is NEVER too late to begin. Know dear sister, that you are always held, always loved, always supported. Let us begin to reclaim what is rightfully ours – the Yoni, the feminine landscape, the pelvis, the pelvic bowl.
